FREDERICIA, Denmark — February 10, 2026 — Leads & Copy — Exolum, Methanex Corporation (TSX: MX) (Nasdaq: MEOH) and Ørsted have launched the United Kingdom’s first commercially ready biomethanol storage and supply service for shipping at the Port of Immingham.
The initiative highlights the partners’ dedication to advancing decarbonization in maritime transport, despite the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) recent delay in voting on its Net Zero Framework implementation. The Port of Immingham, the U.K.’s largest port by cargo volume, is a critical gateway for energy and bulk materials.
The service will provide marine bunkering for biomethanol, a green fuel for decarbonizing shipping. Exolum will supply storage and fueling infrastructure at its Immingham facility, while Methanex will supply the biomethanol. Ørsted will be the first to use the service for its North Sea offshore wind farm maintenance vessels, supporting the U.K.’s clean energy ambitions.
The collaboration demonstrates how existing energy infrastructure can be adapted to support sustainable fuels, aligning with the partners’ commitment to accelerating the maritime sector’s transition to low-carbon operations.
Domestic shipping in the U.K. accounts for 4.7% of transport-related CO₂ emissions. The U.K.’s Department for Transport aims to reduce shipping emissions by 30% by 2030 and 80% by 2040, targeting zero emissions by 2050.

The ISCC-certified biomethanol supplied to Ørsted is produced at Methanex’s U.S. facilities on the Gulf Coast using feedstocks derived from waste and residues, such as organic municipal solid waste, delivering up to an 80 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional marine fuels.
Exolum operates in 10 markets globally and owns a U.K. network of fuel, biofuel, and chemical storage terminals at major ports, along with a 2,000km pipeline network.
Methanex is the world’s largest producer and supplier of methanol. Ørsted develops, constructs, and operates wind farms, solar farms, energy storage facilities, and bioenergy plants.
