Opus One Gold Corp (TSX-V: OOR) has announced positive results from a Laser Induced Breakdown Spectrometry (LIBS) study conducted by ECORE (ELEMISSION LIBS technology) on drill core from its winter 2025 drilling project on Zone 1 of its 100% owned Noyell gold project in Abitibi, Quebec. The company says this study is part of a metallurgical evaluation program designed to improve understanding of Zone 1 gold association with other metals and minerals.
The ECORE study analyzed mineralized core from holes NO-25-07 and NO-25-13. Hole NO-25-07 is a relatively shallow hole, while NO-25-13 represents the deepest high-grade interval obtained on Zone 1 to date. The study sought to identify mineralogical associations and correlations within the mineralized zones. Opus One aimed to identify minerals directly related to the precious metals and to define alteration minerals and patterns within the zone and its periphery.
According to the company, the study’s results indicate a strong relationship between precious metals (gold and silver) and sulphide minerals. The most abundant sulphide mineral is pyrrhotite, followed by arsenopyrite and pyrite. Precious minerals are observed with or close to pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, quartz, ankerite, sericite, and, to a lesser extent, albite. Quartz, ankerite, sericite, and albite represent the alteration assemblage typical of Zone 1. These observations apply to both near-surface and deeper mineralization.
Zone 1 is bordered by an alteration assemblage consisting of chlorite, Iron oxide, siderite, and quartz. The company noted that the alteration pattern differs significantly within the mineralized zone compared to its periphery.
Opus One CEO Louis Morin commented that the completed LIBS study gives Opus One a real boost for the future. According to Morin, the study suggests gold encountered in Zone 1 is found in a free state, finely disseminated, and in close proximity to sulphide minerals, potentially enabling a good recuperation rate should gold production become possible.
Opus One is actively drilling, with targets identified to infill and extend Zone 1 in all directions and to test new areas in the western portion of the property where significant gold was reported in past drill records. The company anticipates the 2026 drill program will involve 13,000 to 14,000 meters of core in 26 holes, weather permitting. The permitting process is secured, and three drill rigs are currently operating on the property.
