MindBio Therapeutics Corp. (CSE: MBIO | Frankfurt: WF6 | OTCQB: MBQIF) has appointed Felipe Leyton, a South American drug and alcohol policy expert and mining industry safety authority, to spearhead commercialization efforts across the South American mining sector.
Leyton, who contributed to the implementation of Chile’s Zero Tolerance framework for alcohol-impaired driving, will now lead the deployment of MindBio’s Voice-Initiated AI Drug & Alcohol Screening Platform into the mining industry.
This appointment signals MindBio’s shift from advanced development to commercial field deployment.
Leyton is considered an authority in alcohol and drug public policy, mining industry safety, regulatory implementation, and prevention strategy in South America. He previously served as Head of Chile’s National Alcohol Prevention Unit and Head of National Prevention Programs. He contributed to Chile’s roadside drug testing program, launched in 2019.
Currently, Leyton is a Partner at TConsulting, advising Chilean mining operators, government ministries, and international organizations on drug and alcohol prevention strategy, regulatory compliance, workplace health promotion, and industrial safety culture transformation.
Under his engagement with MindBio, Leyton will develop mining-specific testing protocols, expand clinical validation, refine AI prediction models, strengthen multi-substance detection capability (including cocaine, benzodiazepines, amphetamines, cannabis, hallucinogens, and alcohol), develop scalable enterprise licensing frameworks for mining operators, and oversee phased deployment into active mining environments.
MindBio is nearing completion of its integrated Edge AI hardware-software kiosk system, designed for industrial environments. On-site field testing at mining operations is scheduled to begin in Q2 2026.
The platform offers rapid, non-invasive screening, real-time AI-driven impairment prediction using voice, and scalable on-site deployment, potentially reducing operational friction compared to traditional biological testing methods.
Substance use remains a significant occupational safety risk in heavy industry. Data indicates high rates of alcohol consumption and problem drinking among mining workers in Chile, with a significant percentage also reporting drug use. Globally, a substantial percentage of occupational accidents are linked to substance use, highlighting the need for real-time impairment detection technologies.
MindBio CEO Justin Hanka said that Leyton brings regulatory authority and direct access to the mining industry. Hanka believes this positions MindBio at the forefront of next-generation industrial safety solutions and voice initiated health diagnostic technologies.
