Maizex Seeds Invests $8.8 Million in New Seed Corn Plant

BLENHEIM, ON — December 8, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Maizex Seeds, a division of Sollio Agriculture, is breaking ground on a new seed corn processing and packaging plant in Blenheim, Ontario. The $8.8 million investment will enhance the company’s ability to meet the future needs of farm customers and demonstrates a commitment to Canadian-grown seed corn, according to Sollio Agriculture Chief Executive Officer Casper Kaastra.

The facility will replace an existing seed corn processing plant acquired in 2019 after the joint venture between Maizex Seeds and Sollio Agriculture was formed. The new plant will feature state-of-the-art cleaning, sizing, and packaging equipment and will emulate the single-story flow-through design of Maizex’s Tilbury facility, with additional automation and capabilities, according to Maizex Seeds General Manager Blake Ashton.

Ashton credited company founders Dave and Brenda Baute for the Tilbury plant design, noting their focus on seed quality as the basis for the plant design.

Maizex Seeds produces seed corn hybrids in the Chatham-Kent region of Ontario, which provides a long frost-free growing season and consistent moisture patterns due to its location between the Great Lakes. According to the press release, this environment enables the production of high-quality seed corn hybrids for all Canadian farmers, with every maturity range and regional specifics across the country.

According to Ashton, the Canadian seed corn market is experiencing strong demand and is an important industry supported across Canada. He added that the company has been increasing sales nationwide with a strong product line in all maturities.

Maizex Seeds produces and markets high-performance corn hybrids, soybean varieties, canola hybrids, forages, cereals, and seed-based technologies for Canadian farmers. Maizex and Sollio Agriculture launched their joint venture in 2018 and are owned and operated by Canadian farmers. Together, they have over 100 years of experience in building farmer trust through product performance and agronomy and product support.

Sollio Agriculture is the Agri-business Division of Sollio Cooperative Group and a Canadian agricultural industry leader.
