CALGARY, AB — September 8, 2026 — Leads & Copy — Enbridge Inc. announced that Greg Ebel will retire as President and Chief Executive Officer effective December 31, 2026. Michele Harradence has been appointed to succeed him as President and Chief Executive Officer and to the Board of Directors effective January 1, 2027. Harradence is currently Enbridge’s Executive Vice-President and President, Gas Distribution and Storage. Ebel will remain a member of the Board through his retirement date and serve as an advisor to the Board and Harradence from January until May 2027.
The CEO transition occurs as Enbridge continues to execute its strategy of expanding its North American energy infrastructure, encompassing its liquids pipelines, gas transmission and storage, natural gas utility, and renewable power businesses.
Steve Williams, Chair of the Enbridge Board of Directors, stated that few leaders have shaped Enbridge as profoundly as Ebel. Williams highlighted Ebel’s integral role in the transformational merger of Spectra Energy and Enbridge before becoming President and CEO. During his tenure as Board Chair, and subsequently President and CEO, Ebel was instrumental in securing Enbridge’s $41 billion growth project backlog, expanding the company’s natural gas platform through the acquisition of three U.S. natural gas utilities from Dominion Energy, strengthening the company’s financial position, and advancing Enbridge’s advocacy on energy security, affordability, and competitiveness. Williams thanked Ebel for his leadership and contributions, noting he leaves behind an enduring legacy and a stronger, more diversified company positioned for the future.
Williams also expressed the Board’s confidence in Harradence, citing her experience, judgment, and strategic leadership. He emphasized her deep commitment to Enbridge’s people, customers, and shareholders, along with her focus on safety, execution, and results, as key factors making her the right leader to build on the company’s momentum and guide it into its next chapter.
Ebel joined Enbridge in 2017, moving from President and CEO of Spectra Energy to Chair of the Enbridge Board following the merger. He assumed the role of President and CEO in January 2023. Earlier this year, Ebel received the Maple Leaf Award of Distinction for his leadership in the energy sector and for strengthening business relationships between Canada and the United States.
Ebel commented that it has been an honor to lead Enbridge and work with its employees. He expressed pride in the company’s role in building the current Enbridge, from the Spectra Energy merger to the expansion of its natural gas utility business and the continued growth of its energy infrastructure platform and project backlog. He also commended the employees and the culture built together, characterized by a commitment to high performance, customer service, and ethical conduct. Ebel stated he has full confidence in the company’s strategy, its people, and Harradence’s leadership.
Harradence’s appointment follows a multi-year succession planning process led by the Board. It reflects her extensive leadership experience across Enbridge’s gas distribution, gas transmission, and midstream businesses, as well as her prior roles in the oil sands and refining sectors in Canada.
Harradence has led Enbridge’s gas utilities since 2022, overseeing the integration of U.S. utility businesses that have established Enbridge as one of North America’s largest integrated gas utility platforms, serving 7.2 million homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses in Canada and the United States. Before leading the utilities, she served as Senior Vice-President and Chief Operations Officer in Enbridge’s Gas Transmission and Midstream business in Houston. She joined Enbridge in 2014 after holding senior leadership positions with Shell Canada.
Ebel stated that Harradence is an exceptional leader whose contributions have helped shape corporate strategy, strengthen the business, and position Enbridge for long-term success. He added that Enbridge is entering its next chapter from a position of strength with a diversified business, robust growth outlook, and significant opportunities. As he prepares to retire, he expressed tremendous confidence in Harradence, the leadership team, and the company’s continued momentum.
Harradence expressed her honor at the Board’s trust. Looking ahead, she sees Enbridge as exceptionally well-positioned with world-class assets, a strong financial foundation, and growth opportunities across all its businesses. She is excited to work with Enbridge’s employees and management team to build on this momentum and advance the safe, reliable, and affordable energy that customers depend on.
