December 8, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Compass Minerals (NYSE: CMP) has released its fiscal fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 results, highlighting a pivotal year focused on its core Salt and Plant Nutrition businesses.
Edward C. Dowling Jr., president and CEO, stated that the company executed a “back-to-basics” strategy, aligning North American highway deicing production with market conditions and implementing organizational, operational, and financial actions to strengthen the business. Dowling emphasized the company’s focus on stronger cash generation and absolute debt reduction to generate long-term value for shareholders.
Key financial results for the fourth quarter of 2025 include:
- Net loss of $7.2 million, an improvement from the $48.3 million net loss in the prior year period.
- Adjusted EBITDA of $41.6 million, up from $15.6 million in the prior year.
Full-year 2025 results include:
- Net loss of $79.8 million, compared to a $206.1 million net loss in fiscal 2024.
- Adjusted EBITDA down 4% year-over-year to $198.8 million; however, when factoring in the Fortress North America, LLC (Fortress) contingent consideration, adjusted EBITDA increased 4% year-over-year.
- Salt business adjusted EBITDA per ton declined to $20.20.
- Plant Nutrition sales volumes increased 19% to 326,000 tons, with improved profitability due to cost structure reductions.
- North American highway deicing inventory value and volumes were reduced by 33% and 36%, respectively.
- Net total debt reduced by 14%, or $125 million, to $772.5 million.
- Successful refinancing activity completed, enhancing liquidity and extending the debt maturity profile.
The company’s fiscal 2026 outlook includes:
- Total adjusted EBITDA guidance range of $200 million to $240 million.
- Salt segment adjusted EBITDA guidance range of $225 million to $255 million, expected to improve year-over-year due to stronger margins from pricing and lower per-ton costs.
- Plant Nutrition segment adjusted EBITDA guidance range of $31 million to $36 million, expecting similar adjusted EBITDA compared to 2025 due to higher pricing and an improving cost structure.
- Corporate overhead and other adjusted EBITDA guidance range of $(56) million to $(51) million, reflecting cost rationalization efforts.
The Salt segment’s fourth-quarter revenue increased 12% year-over-year to $181.6 million, driven by a 13% increase in total sales volumes partially offset by a 1% price decrease. Highway deicing sales volumes increased 20%, while consumer and industrial salt product volumes saw a slight decrease of 3%. For fiscal year 2025, Salt segment revenue increased 13% to $1,022.5 million, due to a 20% increase in highway deicing sales volumes and a 1% increase in C&I sales volumes.
The Plant Nutrition segment’s fourth-quarter revenue was essentially flat at $41.8 million, with a 9% decrease in sales volumes offset by an 8% price increase. The segment reported operating income of $6.2 million, compared to an operating loss of $29.7 million in the prior-year period. For the full fiscal year, Plant Nutrition segment revenue grew 14% to $206.3 million, due to a 19% increase in sales volumes. Operating income was $6.5 million, versus an $86.4 million loss in fiscal 2024.
Net cash provided by operating activities was $197.7 million for fiscal 2025, a significant improvement from the $14.4 million in the prior year, reflecting the company’s actions to curtail production and rationalize inventory levels. The company ended the fiscal year with $59.7 million in cash and cash equivalents and $304.9 million available under its revolving credit facility, resulting in $364.6 million of available liquidity.
