Buildcheck AI Raises $5.9 Million in Seed Funding to Streamline Construction Design Review

San Francisco, CA — December 9, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Buildcheck AI, Inc. (Buildcheck), an AI-powered construction design review platform, has secured $5.9 million in seed funding to further develop its technology and expand its reach.

The funding round was led by Uncork Capital, with participation from Peterson Ventures and Xfund. Strategic angel investments also came from founders and senior executives at OpenAI, Opendoor, CBRE, Zillow, and others.

Buildcheck’s AI platform analyzes construction drawings across architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines. The system performs hundreds of checks to detect errors, omissions, and coordination issues, aiming to catch costly conflicts typically missed by human reviewers. The company reports that it already serves more than 50 paying customers, including AvalonBay Communities and Novo Construction, and delivers a 10–35x ROI by preventing field issues during pre-construction.

Joe Kirchofer, senior vice president of Northern California for AvalonBay Communities, stated that Buildcheck helps reduce risk and make better use of time and capital, offering a more efficient method compared to traditional manual drawing reviews.

The company said it has won multiple awards, including the Cemex Construction Startup Competition 2025, EllisDon 2025 ConTech Accelerator, Cityscape Global 2025, Buildex Alberta 2025, and the Setia AI and PropTech Innovation Challenge 2025 (powered by Ibex).

Alexander Michalatos, CEO and co-founder of Buildcheck, highlighted the increasing challenges faced by general contractors and commercial real estate developers regarding design quality, accuracy, and errors. He noted the rapid adoption of Buildcheck’s technology as a means to save customers time, money, and reduce pre-construction complications. Michalatos’ background includes managing technical scopes on major construction projects, such as Canada’s $600 million North Island Hospitals.

Buildcheck was founded by Alexander Michalatos, Andrei Molchynsky, and Alex Gureev at Stanford University. The co-founders combine construction management experience with expertise in AI development to address the gap between project design and construction execution.

Alex Gureev, who leads AI development at Buildcheck, stated that the AI analyzes 2D drawings, performs faster and more consistently than human reviewers, and is designed to set a new standard of accuracy and efficiency in pre-construction.

Andrei Molchynsky added that customers are catching issues that would have cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars in change orders and delays, and that Buildcheck helps teams move faster, reduce Requests for Information (RFIs), and protect margins.

Buildcheck’s AI models continue to improve through collaborations with leading research institutions, including MILA and AMII, as well as expert advisors from OpenAI, ServiceNow, and Oxford University.

Amy Saper, partner at Uncork Capital, noted that design errors in the construction market create more than $200 billion in waste annually. Buildcheck, Saper said, addresses this by catching issues early and delivering measurable ROI for general contractors, developers, and designers.

The seed funding will be used to accelerate Buildcheck’s AI model development, expand its engineering and operations teams, and add new features to the platform.
