Champaign, Illinois — December 8, 2025 — Leads & Copy — BioLumic, an agricultural biotechnology company specializing in programming heritable seed traits with light, has announced its expansion of the Corn xTraits Licensing Program into South America.
The expansion includes early-stage evaluations with GDM and a collaboration with Tropical Melhoramento & Genética (TMG), two of Brazil’s leading seed companies, alongside regional seed production and nursery engagement with Gro Alliance. This move builds upon the existing partnership and commercial success of xTraits in the United States.
Key elements of the South American expansion include:
South America Expansion: BioLumic is extending its Corn xTraits Licensing Program into South America through early-stage evaluations with GDM, a collaboration with TMG, and seed production activities with Gro Alliance.
Regional Testing & Validation: GDM, TMG, and Grupo Scheffer will conduct multi-location field evaluations to assess how BioLumic’s light-activated seed traits perform within local genetics and growing conditions. This will create a direct pathway to validate xTraits for farmers.
Path to Commercialization: Nursery work will take place year-round in Chile. Field trials are scheduled in Brazil for 2026-2027, which will inform commercial launch plans. A broader Latin America rollout is expected within 12-15 months, with future expansion into soybean and ryegrass.
